These images are from an ultra rare brochure from my collection detailing the collaborative design of the Walker Art Center’s “Walker the typeface” (1994-1995). Laurie Haycock Makela commissioned Matthew Carter who in turn designed a solid all caps sans that featured “snap-on” serifs of different varieties. The flexibility of being able to choose serif styles and under/over lines at random allowed the typeface to “speak with many voices.” This typeface was truly one of the most successful “experimental” types of its day.
